ChartAlert® is a Microsoft® Windows® compatible end-of-day software that publishes stock market research and advisory reports, and technical analysis charts.

The Technical Analysis Charting Module in ChartAlert® has been designed with some very powerful technical analysis charting capabilities. Chart data can be easily edited, deleted, zoomed and scrolled. Chart overlays can be displayed. In fact, the software can build a chart for any stock and in any time frame, and also allow each chart to be customized with technical analysis studies, colors and chart types.

Benefits of the Technical Analysis Charting Module

The Technical Analysis Charting Module, your tool for technical analysis charting, will allow you to peep into the historical past, and will also allow you to freely peruse the stock market charts and spot chart trends using all the well-known technical analysis indicators. While the simple and user-friendly charting format makes it easy for beginners and casual chartists to jump right into, it also provides all the graphical data a technical analysis expert would desire.

To have a precise view of short-term stock market trading activity, and/or a more long-term investment view, the Technical Analysis Charting Module offers 5 options for time intervals:

      daily | weekly | monthly | quarterly | yearly

One of the key benefits of the Technical Analysis Charting Module is the ability to save your favourite stock market charts with custom chart settings. In other words, when you bring up a new stock chart, it will appear with your preferred date range, periodicity and indicator settings already applied.

These customizations are easily created and managed, and most importantly, make the Technical Analysis Charting Module unique to you.

Marking significant price points, applying technical analyst moderated channels and trendlines (for 200+ futures & options porfolio of stocks), drawing (end-user or) custom trendline studies (for all stocks), applying Elliott Wave price labels (for 20+ futures & options porfolio of stocks), applying Japanese Candlesticks pattern screener (for all stocks), running technical indicators based scanner or screener (for all stocks), or applying pre-packaged Trading Systems (short-term, medium-term; for 50% of NSE cash market stocks) will be a great way to make a wise stock market trading and investment decision.

Limitations of the Technical Analysis Charting Module

The Technical Analysis Charting Module is purely for technical analysis charting and stock market analysis, and all the information it provides is derived from the price and volume data of individual stocks that are traded in the stock exchanges. The basic stock charts displayed in ChartAlert® simply reflect the bullish or bearish psychology of the stock market, and while they may not explicitly tell you when to buy or sell, they would definitely help you look for trading and investment signals that give hints as to what a stock may be doing.

Another limitation of the Technical Analysis Charting Module is that it will not predict future price movements. Technical Analysis is based on the belief that stock prices trend, and while there are situations where a future price trend is likely, it is never a guarantee.

However, market sentiment is not unpredictable, therefore users can take advantage of Technical Analysis Charting Module features (Line Studies, Masks, Trading Systems, etc) to make sound forecasts and/or predictions.

Charting / Chart Studies Toolbars

The Technical Analysis Charting Module provides two ways to manage your charting: Charts and Masks.

Both these types are managed from one central location, the Charting and Chart Studies toolbars.

Charts

Stock Charts are the focal point of much of what you do in ChartAlert® Technical Analysis Charting Module. They are a visual or graphical representation of each stock's prices in a single window.

A stock chart is contained within a single window, which is further divided into one or more sub-windows where the stock prices and technical indicators are plotted. Thus, each stock's window can contain price plots, technical indicators, price-plot overlays, etc. in one or multiple sub-windows.

A stock chart helps you perform a visual interpretation of a security. Technical indicators or studies can be plotted on a chart to help you see what stock prices have done in the past, what they are currently doing, and what they may do in the future.

NSE Cash Stocks / NSE Futures / BSE Cash Stocks

The Technical Analysis Charting Module's end-of-day coverage or support includes all tradeable NSE cash stocks, all tradeable NSE futures (1-mo, 2-mo, 3-mo), and all tradeable BSE cash stocks. The future versions of ChartAlert® are expected to include (over a period of time) MCX and NCDEX Commodities, DowJones65, S&P500 and NASDAQ100 component stocks, and leading American, European & Asian stockmarket indices.

Chart Types / Price Plots / Price Plot Overlays / Moving Averages

The primary focus of a stock chart is its price plot. Every stock chart consists of a base security, which is simply a stock's pricing data.

There are six different types or styles for displaying a stock chart's pricing data. Each of these chart types (Open-High-Low-Close Bars, Candlesticks, Line, Median Price, Typical Price, Weighted Close) uses one or more of the four basic pieces of pricing data viz. open, high, low and close, and each of these chart types has unique differences that can be interpreted in various ways.

The future versions of ChartAlert® would also include the following: Kagi, Renko, Three Line Break, Point & Figure, CandleVolume and EquiVolume chart types.

The Technical Analysis Charting Module provides for several forms of price-plot overlays such as: Bollinger Bands, DEMA, Donchian Channels, Envelopes, Ichimoku Kinko Hyo, Parabolic SAR, T3, TEMA, Time Series Forecast, VIDYA, Wilder's Smoothing, Zero Lag EMA, etc. It also provides for overlaying the Volume, Price-by-Volume and the Volume+Delivery Volume studies on the price plot.

Moving Averages, a staple indicator of technical analysis used in countless technical analysis studies are also available as a price plot overlay.

There are 9 types of Moving Averages available in ChartAlert® for charting and/or screening purposes:  Simple Moving Average, Exponential Moving Average, Time Series Moving Average, Triangular Moving Average, Variable Moving Average, Volume-adjusted Moving Average, Weighted Moving Average, Welles Wilder Moving Average, Zero Lag Exponential Moving Average.

Technical Indicators / Studies

The ChartAlert® Technical Analysis Charting Module has 90+ Technical Indicators or Studies to help analyze stock market charts and to facilitate trading decisions.

A technical indicator is a math-based calculation that can be applied to a base security's price, volume or even to another technical indicator. The result is a value that is used to anticipate future changes in stock prices. Technical indicators are plotted either in a separate sub-window or overlayed in the base security's window (e.g., moving average).

Technical indicators can be plotted directly on a chart (overlaid on the price plot like a moving average), or drawn in one or more sub-windows (like Relative Strength Index in a separate sub-window on the chart). You can also quickly browse through all technical indicators in a single sub-window instead of plotting multiple technical indicators in multiple sub-windows.

Right-clicking directly on each technical indicator allows you access to a dialog window to edit or customize the technical indicator settings. Changing a technical indicator parameter will dynamically update the technical indicator on the stock chart. This allows you to experiment with different technical indicator settings and see the immediate result on the stock chart.

If you need help interpreting a technical indicator, the help system that ships with the software contains basic information on every technical indicator. Simply right-click on the plotted technical indicator and choose Help to get a help screen explaining the technical indicator.

Line Studies

The Technical Analysis Charting Module includes the fundamental construction tool of chart analysis viz. Drawing / Line Studies.

Drawing / Line Studies are tools that traders draw to analyze chart patterns, and/or interpret price movement.

They are instrumental in measuring price-and-time relationship, and include such characteristics as slope, channeling, retracement percentages, etc.

Line Studies in ChartAlert® can be drawn, edited, deleted, zoomed, scrolled and saved for future use.

Toolbars  |  Fully Customizable Charts

When a stock chart window is displayed, several icons or buttons in the various charting toolbars will be enabled to let you operate all the technical analysis features available in the Technical Analysis Charting Module.

These icons or buttons are used to zoom-in, zoom-out, zoom reset, zoom show all, scroll chart, scale the chart to a linear or log scale, activate technical analysis studies, switch chart time frames, select chart types, modify and color studies, view a list of objects on the chart, etc.

Right-clicking on the chart objects will display their properties. This properties screen allows you to customize the colors, studies' parameters and all other aspects of the individual stock chart. Several stock chart windows can be opened at the same time, and these multiple stock chart windows can also be cascaded, tiled horizontally or vertically.

Chart Data Stored on Hard Drive

Chart data can be collected and displayed for any stock, restricted to all tradeable NSE cash market stocks, all tradeable BSE cash market stocks, all tradeable NSE futures and all the leading NSE and BSE indices. The chart data is stored in different folders on the hard disk depending on the stock market group. When a stock chart is requested, the appropriate data is loaded and displayed in the stock chart window.

WatchLists

The Technical Analysis Charting Module allows you to create multiple WatchLists wherein you could group your favourite stocks per WatchList.

You can create and delete WatchLists, and add/edit or remove stocks from WatchLists. You can also move stocks between WatchLists by simply using the drag & drop functionality, and you can also merge WatchLists by simply dragging one WatchList and dropping it onto another WatchList.

Stocks within these WatchLists can also be scanned through Candlesticks Scan, Technical Indicator Scan and Trading System Scan modules.

Scroll through Groups of Charts

The Technical Analysis Charting Module comes with a Scroll/ AutoScroll Charts feature that allows you to move forward & backward through a Group of stock charts that have been loaded through a dialog window. Simply click the set Group button to set the Group of stock charts you want to browse or scroll through, then click on scroll-left to scroll backward, or click on scroll-right to scroll forward. You can also set a timer for each chart and AutoScroll through the Group hands-free.

Heikin-Ashi

The Technical Analysis Charting Module comes with a Heikin-Ashi chart function for cash market stocks. Although Heikin-Ashi charts are considered slower than candlestick charts, they help cut down on erratic market volatility.

When used in conjunction with candlestick charts, they help improve isolation of trends. That is, trends can be located more easily to predict future market prices, and trading opportunities can be spotted at a glance.

Relative Performance

The Technical Analysis Charting Module comes with a Relative Performance chart function for cash market stocks. You can plot upto 10 stocks on a base stocks to compare how all the 11 stocks have relatively performed over a specified period of time, including from the time of inception of these stocks. For plotting Relative Performance charts, stocks have been neatly organized as "Indices" or "Sectors" or "A to Z" or "Peer Group".

Monthly Trading Ranges

The Technical Analysis Charting Module comes with a Monthly Trading Ranges (MTR) function that plots resistances, supports and the critical price level for the upcoming 1-mo period. The MTR function also includes an automated price channel on the stock chart to facilitate trading of 1-mo futures contracts.

AutoFibonacci

The Technical Analysis Charting Module comes with a Fibonacci Retracement Zone or the AutoFibonacci function that innovatively plots fibonacci resistance and support levels for fixed periods of 4-weeks, 3-mo, 6-mo, 12-mo/1-year, 2-years, 3-years or 5-years on a stock chart. The function can be plotted on the daily, weekly and monthly scale.

Technical Analysis Mask

The Technical Analysis Mask is a template that has been designed by TechnicalAnalysis.in for select NSE futures & options portfolio of stocks, including the S&P CNX Nifty 50 component stocks.

The Technical Analysis Mask allows you to see short-term, medium-term and long-term price channels, trendlines and important supports and resistances marked out on the stock chart. Since these channels and trendlines are based on closing prices, when the Technical Analysis Mask is applied, a Line Chart layer is superimposed on a Bar Chart layer.

Candlesticks Mask

The Candlesticks Mask is a template that has been designed by TechnicalAnalysis.in for all the NSE cash and futures & options segment of stocks, and BSE cash stocks. The template allows traders to see end-of-day, end-of-week and end-of-month candlesticks patterns labeled on the stock chart. The Candlesticks Mask can be powerful when used in combination with other technical analysis tools.

Candlesticks charts use the same price data as bar charts (i.e. open, high, low, close). However, candlesticks are drawn in a much more visually identifiable way typically resembling a candle with wicks on both ends. The high/low, described as shadows, are plotted as a single vertical line.

ElliottWave Mask

The ElliottWave Mask is a template that has been designed by TechnicalAnalysis.in for a limited number of stocks that also comprise the portfolio of stocks analyzed in ElliottWave Advisory (a short-term/ medium-term stock market research report published through the Stock Market Advisory Module).

The ElliottWave Mask allows you to see short-term, medium-term and long-term ElliottWave price labels, ElliottWave channels and important supports and resistances marked out on the stock chart. Since the ElliottWave price labels and channels are based on high/low prices, the ElliottWave Mask is applied on a Bar Chart layer. The ElliottWave Mask is maintained and moderated by TechnicalAnalysis.in technical analysts.

User's TA Mask

To help with the management of end-user charts, the Technical Analysis Charting Module automatically creates for every security a special type of stock chart called a User's Technical Analysis Mask.

This User's Technical Analysis Mask is simply a stock chart that is automatically saved with all its user-defined settings (using the Auto Save feature) for a particular stock each time you are done working with it. The next time you load that stock's chart, it appears exactly as it did when you last saw it. The Auto Save feature thus frees you from having to worry about saving your stock charts after you're done working with them.

Templates

Templates are factory-built and/or custom data files that contain all the technical analysis parameters of a stock chart, excluding the security data itself.

A template is applied to a security at which time the stock chart is re-created based on the technical analysis information contained in that template.

For example, suppose you like to analyze your stocks with an MACD, RSI, Stochastics, and a 20-day Simple Moving Average. You could save all this technical analysis information in a custom or user-defined template and apply it to any other security in one quick step. Thus, once a template has been created and saved, it can be used over and over again.

Screener >> Candlestick Patterns

Stocks can now be screened (at end-of-day) for candlesticks patterns based on the in-built candlesticks pattern detection algorithms, the output of which is published in a grid format report. This grid report is extremely customizable and can be manipulated extensively.

Currently, ChartAlert® can detect 27 Bullish Reversal, 27 Bearish Reversal, 7 Bullish Continuation and 9 Bearish Continuation candlesticks patterns.

Screener >> Technical Indicators

Technical Indicator Scans are Indicator-based algorithms that scan stocks (at end-of-day) for potential bullish and bearish signals, the output of which is then published in a grid format report.

This grid report is extremely customizable and can be manipulated extensively. The parameters of each of these scans can be customized and saved by the end-user.

Once screening of stocks, based on the Indicator-based algorithms selected by the end-user is complete, a Technical Indicator Scans Summary Report will display all the stocks that have met the scan criteria.

Trading Systems  |  Screener >> Trading Systems

Trading Systems are a collection of powerful technical analysis tools that keep you informed (with buy/ sell symbols on the stock chart) about the current technical status of a stock. They are technical analysis based strategies that contain complete and complex trading and investment rules, bundling the logic with the visual presentation of these strategies.

The buy/ sell symbols displayed on the stock chart provide a great way to mark points where specified trading rules or conditions of the strategy are met. For example, a buy symbol is placed below the price bar on the day when the trading rule for going long on the basis of closing prices is triggered.

Trading Systems can improve performance as they force you to do your homework before making a trade, and provide a disciplined framework making it easier for you to follow the rules, thereby enabling you to increase your level of diversification.

Select NSE stocks can be screened (at end-of-day) for potential buy/ sell signals based on the in-built Trading System algorithms, the output of which is published in a grid format report, which is extremely customizable and can be manipulated extensively.

Trading Systems have been designed on the lines of stock market research and advisory tools published through the Stock Market Advisory Module, and they have been screened and ranked for 50% of the NSE cash stocks.

Trading Systems >> Detailed Statistics

The Trading System algorithms that screen NSE cash stocks at end-of-day for potential buy and sell signals also come with the ability to backtest a stock and list the detailed statistics of that particular trading system. A typical Trading System Stat report includes: Symbol, Sector, Type and Rank of Trading System, Recommendation, Net Profit, Retention Rate, Success Rate, Relative to Buy/Hold Index, Average Win-Loss Ratio, Profit Factor, Return-On-Account (RoA), ChartAlert® Return Ratio, Risk-Reward Index, Open/High/Low/Close, Volume/Delivery Volume, % of Delivery Volume to Volume, etc.
